about

Words & Music by Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie & Rod Temperton (WB Music Corp. ASCAP)

I wanted to be Shug Avery as soon as I saw "The Color Purple". I still do, every time I see it. I've been singing "Miss Celie's Blues" - the song Shug sings to Celie in the movie, just in case you haven't seen it 30 times like I have - ever since high school. I adore this song and never get tired of singing it.

lyrics

Sister - you been on my mind
Sister - we're two of a kind
So sister - I'm keeping my eye on you

I bet you think I don't know nothing but singing the blues
Oh sister - have I got news for you
I'm something - I hope you think that you're something too

Scuffling - I've been up that lonesome road
And I've seen a lotta suns going down
But trust me - no low life gonna run me around
